Exhibition: September 2019, Crimson Teas, Toronto
Wear We Came From is a photo-audio series documenting 10 young Asian individuals living in the GTA and their stories of migration through clothing and accessories. Whether it’s a coat that survived the Japanese internment camps in the 1940s, or a ring that journeyed from Kolkata, India only to be discovered in Mississauga, apparel often lives through multiple generations and moves across lands, holding an abundance of memories, experiences, and histories. Wear We Came From is about uncovering and creating a dynamic preservation of Asian im/migrant stories. Featuring: Christie Carriere, Caitlin Chee, Hannia Cheng, Caitlin Morshita-Miki, Hamza Naim, Nam Nguyen, Nightingale Nguyen, Nina Santiago-Escalante, Sanchari Sur, Florence Yee.
The exhibition was supported by Canada Service Corps, TakingITGlobal, and the Government of Canada.
